Are you one of those busy people who are looking for a short holiday, or a tourist from  overseas or  interstate, looking for somewhere to go?

Why not pay a visit to Christies Beach and its surrounds on the first or third weekend in the month.

It could be the start of a new experience for you.

The Original Open Market  has something to offer you all.

The Market is situated on the Open Market Reserve,  Beach Road, Christies Beach.

A lovely area surrounded by the sea , the hills of the lower Mount Lofty Ranges and vineyards.

Christies Beach and Port Noarlunga are on the Fleurieu Peninsular; a buffer between city and country.

It is next door to McLaren Vale with its wine tasting and vineyards and within an easy drive of Willunga with its Almond Blossom Festival, and historic buildings.

Regardless of the weather, (unless it is absolutely pouring with rain), the Original Open Market will be there for you on the first and third Sunday morning each month.

The stallholders offer everything you could possibly wish for.

Browse the stalls to your heart's content. You don't have to buy anything, but here's betting you will find something that will interest you.

After a full morning of friendly chatter and browsing, have some lunch at the sausage sizzle conducted by one of the five local Surf Lifesaving Clubs or Coastguard.
(These community organizations are permitted to use the market as a fund-raising venue). It is the only food permitted to be sold at the market.

If you do not fancy sausages or egg and bacon, you could visit one of the local cafes, restaurants or takeaways before making your way down to the beach.

If you are in to surfing, the area has  great surfing beaches.

Or spend a bit of time fishing, either from the Port Noarlunga jetty or from the beach.

Best of all put on some diving gear or snorkel and do a bit of exploring around the heritage reef in the aquatic reserve.

You might even see one of those elusive sea horses.

However, if your tastes lean more towards a little tipple, take a wine tasting tour of the wineries in and around McLaren Vale.

Arrive on Friday evening or early Saturday morning and spend the weekend at one of the hotels, motels or guest houses and visit the sights.

The varied bird life will keep birdwatchers entranced.

Or, you could take a canoe paddle up the Onkaparinga to Old Noarlunga; play a game of bowls or have a hit of tennis.

If you are lucky, the odd whale sometimes makes its way into the gulf.

There is also golf, archery, bush walking, flying lessons, the Aboriginal Tjilbruke Dreaming track, Aboriginal significant Red Ochre Point, Onkaparinga Gorge to name but a few of the myriad of sights and things to do in the City of Onkaparinga.

But don't forget, save the morning on the first or third Sundays of the month for The Original Open Market.

It is free and is there for you to come along and browse, have a chat and enjoy the friendly atmosphere.
