THE SCOURGE OF THE CREEP
There are so
many stallholders doing the right thing that it becomes embarrassing to nag
you about those few doing the sneaky creep, but it has to be done now,
before it becomes an ingrained habit.
We all know you are allowed the area from your front bumper to the back
bumper, or tailgate of your trailer. So why are so many stalls creeping
beyond the vehicle?
Sure, it is human nature to fudge a bit on boundaries, but it is important
that you leave the two metre space between your stall and those either side
of you.
That space is for wheelchair access, pedestrian traffic and emergencies.
We all want to get as much use out of what space we can get, but bear in
mind, what is great for you is not necessarily great for the next person.
If you have a very small car, you may be allowed a little extra space, but
that is not your right, it is a favour bestowed by your friendly
neighbourhood Control Officer and his helpers.
Otherwise you must keep within your allotted space.
Just fifty centimetres creep will cut off a metre over all and that lends
itself to over crowding.
However, the worst offending is seen when goods are unpacked beside and
beyond the boot or even alongside and beyond the trailer, with all the area
from the front bumper alongside the vehicle being left empty whilst the two
metre space is crammed.
Remember, we do not run a car boot sale, this is a well organized market
where everyone is treated equally.
If you have too many goods for a vehicle space then buy a trailer space to
go with it. If you have too much stuff to fit the car and trailer space,
then leave some goods unpacked.
Do not use the trailer as a stall because that puts the public at some
danger especially if a vehicle (e.g. ambulance) has to drive along the row.
Please no creeping
Congratulations
Notwithstanding
all the grizzles from the committee, “you ought to be congratulated”.
Yes, we think you are one of the finest bunch of people any-one could find
in one group.
We know you try hard to abide by the rules and you are doing an outstanding
job.
There will always be the odd one or two who will try to push the envelope
and we have to cope with that but on the whole, it is a privilege to work
with you.
Alright, don’t let that go to your head. You know what the committee is
like. They will quickly jump on to any misdemeanours.
In the meantime. Thank you one and all, for your support of the committee
and for doing your best to maintain a happy, friendly, family market.
Babies’ Car Seats
It has been
noticed lately, that there have been a number of babies’ car seats being
offered at the market.
This is fine provided they are lawful.
۰ Car and booster seats must all have the ASA standard stamped on them.
۰ They must not be more than ten years old. The date of manufacture is
stamped on them.
۰ They must not have been in an accident.
At one time we banned them all, but that was not very fair on the young
couple trying to recoup some of their baby expenses.
Remember, the booster cushion that does not have arms to take the seat belts
were the cause of a young boys death and so they are not permitted at all.
It is not always buyer beware, we have a responsibility to the young people
today to keep them safe if possible.
Shoplifters
Please be aware
that the cunning shoplifter is always amongst us.
There have been a number of instances lately when stock has gone missing
from various stalls.
There have been reports of people working in groups and in pairs as well as
single people pinching stock when the owner is not looking.
Keep your wits about you at all times and put that peripheral vision into
gear. Try to take note of who is at your stall and what they are doing.
If someone is trying on clothes, make sure they take them off again if they
are not buying.
Be aware of the person who tries to distract you by continually talking
while you are trying to concentrate.
Have they put something in their bag while buying something else?
There are tons of ways you can be hoodwinked.
If you suspect something, don’t be too embarrassed to question a suspect.
You don’t have to be rude about it, just a simple question.
If you are wrong, no harm done. If you are right, then word will soon get
around that they can’t get the better of you.
Of course you would have to be tactful if you question someone, in case they
are innocent, but what the heck, better to be safe than sorry.
Winners
The lucky
winners for the bumper bar stickers for the last couple of months are:
Nellie and Betty.
Congratulations ladies.
If you want to be included in the competition to win a free entry to the
market, get yourself a free bumper sticker from Debbie and display it on
your vehicle.
